where the wild things are

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak has become a classic. Winner of the 1964 Caldecott Medal as the "Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year," it was first published by HarperCollins in 1963. When the book was written, the theme of dealing with dark emotions was rare in children's literature, especially in picture book format for young children

However, after more the 40 years, what keeps Where the Wild Things Are popular is not the impact of the book on the field of children's literature, it is the impact of the story and the illustrations on young readers. The plot of the book is based on the fantasy (and real) consequences of a little boy's mischief. One night Max dresses up in his wolf suit and does all kinds of things he shouldn't, like chasing the dog with a fork. His mother scolds him and calls him a "WILD THING!" Max is so mad he shouts back, "I'LL EAT YOU UP!" As a result, his mother sends him to his bedroom without any supper.

Max's imagination transforms his bedroom into an extraordinary setting, with a forest and an ocean and a little boat that Max sails in until he comes to a land full of "wild things." Although they look and sound very fierce, Max is able to tame them with a single glance. They all realize Max is "..the most wild thing of all" and make him their king. Max and the wild things have a fine time creating a rumpus until Max begins to want to be "…where someone loved him best of all." Max's fantasy ends when he smells his dinner. Despite the wild things' protests, Max sails back to his own room where he finds his supper waiting for him.

aku donlod cerita ni tu hari for my kids viewing.
then i read an article in THE STAR,
the writer expressed her concern bout the way the story made.
a tad too ganas for kids viewing.. katanya
and the book adalah buku bergambar yg sgt minimal ayat di dalamnya.
but the ganas content sure is obvious.
sbenarnya ia adalah metaphor.
yg the kid actually too angry but at the end of the story dia overcome his anger.
his anger=monster depicted in the movie

what say u as a parents?
should we cushion too much our kids from the world harsh reality?
atau kita bersangka yang the later they learn that dunia adalah tempat yang tidak adil the better?
sampai bila these loving arms of knowing parents dapat save the kids from learning the big truth?

mungkin saya sdikit hippie..
but i think knowing is better
knowing from parents are way better dari knowing from orang ntah mana2 ntah kat luar sana.
and knowing will buat anak kita a little less jakun bila mereka perlu face with the things later.
topik2 taboo yg parents patutnya be ready to tackle
the big sex questions, crime, death, love, hate, hatred, revenge, avenge, friendship..
oh, loads out there,
bilamana anak kita lebih besar, lebih banyak persoalan mereka

oh, that's me,
but i'm not againts parents yg think otherwise..
but please don't be againts me..
we'd be the best person when we being ourselves..

i vote utk expose themselves rather than later they have to learn the hard way dr ntah saper2.. or at least rasa bagus / senang ati if they will come back to us and said "u've told me b4, but i didnt listen".. blaja 2 kali - padan muka.. motif aku emo kat anak sendiri? ahahhaha *kronik ni*
